Numeric Paging
What is numeric paging?
Numeric paging is a paging service
that alerts the user and displays numbers on his
pager display screen. Usually the number that is
displayed is a phone number the user is being requested
to call. The user responds by calling the number
on the display.
Numeric paging is inexpensive and
easy to use. The user can be instructed to call
any phone number, and the message can be read privately.
Numeric pagers will store numerous messages until
the user can respond.
Numeric Paging Is Easy to Use
A caller dials a pager phone number.
He or she is actually dialing into a paging terminal
over telephone lines in much the same manner as
a normal phone call.
The tone a caller hears after dialing
the pager number is the paging terminal telling
the caller that it is ready to accept the page.
The caller dials the numeric message and presses
the pound key (“#”). Pressing the pound
key lets the terminal know that the message is complete
and ready to be sent to the pager. (Even if “#”
is not pressed, the page will be sent, although
it might take a little longer.)
Enhancing Your Numeric Paging Service
Adding optional voice mail to any
numeric messaging device enhances it. The caller
will hear your greeting telling them they can either
leave a voice message or a numeric message at the
sound of the tone. With voice mail, the subscriber
can leave specific instructions on their greeting
to notify callers when they are out of town or unable
to return calls right away. For example, many people
who are looking for a job use a numeric messaging
device with voice mail while job hunting.
Other enhancements include additional
numbers for wider accessibility, national toll-free
numbers, regional or nationwide coverage, and numeric
retrieval, which allows the user to retrieve missed
messages.
