FAQ
Basic information about wireless
service (AT&T)
What's airtime? What's roaming? Here are a few quick
instructions to get you going, as well as some key terms
you might want to know about.
Airtime
Whether you're making or receiving a call, Airtime
is the time that elapses from the moment you press
SEND to begin your call until you press END to terminate
your call.
Billing begins from the time you press SEND and ends
at the time the call is disconnected from the network,
but no sooner than when you press END.
Airtime and other measured usage are rounded up to
the next full or whole minute at the end of each call
for billing purposes. AT&T Wireless charges a
full minute of airtime for usage for every fraction
of the last minute of airtime used on each wireless
call.
You will not be billed for local unanswered or busy
calls of less than 30 seconds.
Home Calling Area
In the Home Calling Area, you pay only your local
airtime rate plus any associated long-distance charges,
taxes, and fees. This may also be referred to as "home
area," "home coverage area," or "local
calling area."
Monthly Access Fee
This is the monthly service charge for your calling
plan package. Each calling plan package allows you
access to the AT&T Wireless network and may include
packaged or bundled minutes for use each month.
Calling Plans
AT&T Home - These are plans for local calls in
the area defined by the local coverage map. Usually,
roaming and long distance are not included on these
plans.
AT&T Nation - Plans that offer the entire United
States as home calling for one price. While on the
network of AT&T, or one of its roaming partners,
there are no roaming or long distance charges on calls
made or received within the USA to or from anywhere
in the USA.
Roaming
Roaming refers to when you make or receive calls
outside of your home calling area. Regardless of whether
you have a AT&T Home AT&T Regional, or AT&T
Nation plan, you will be roaming while outside that
plan's home calling area. On AT&T Region and AT&T
Nation plans, roaming calls within the Region, or
Nation respectively, are billed at home callings as
described in your calling plan brochure. Depending
on your wireless equipment, a roaming indicator may
notify you when you are roaming. Roaming charges may
apply in outlying or fringe areas of the home calling
area. When roaming, airtime charges will appear on
your AT&T Wireless bill, usually 30-60 days after
roaming calls are placed or received.
Mobile to Mobile
Mobile to Mobile Calling adds even more minutes to
your plan by allowing you to make and receive calls
to and from other local AT&T Wireless phones in
your Mobile to Mobile Calling area 24 hours a day,
without using your package minutes.
Note: If you exceed the number of Mobile to Mobile
minutes purchased, your rate plan’s included
package minutes apply.
Mobile to Mobile Cost and Availability
Availability of Mobile to Mobile Calling is dependent
upon your location and may not be available with all
rate plans. If your current rate plan does not include
Mobile to Mobile Calling, check with your nearest
ProTel AT&T dealer to find out pricing information
for your area.
Using Mobile to Mobile
Use of Mobile to Mobile minutes is automatic when
you place and receive calls to and from other AT&T
phones in your Mobile to Mobile Calling area. If you
are not sure of your Mobile to Mobile Calling area,
check with your nearest ProTel AT&T dealer to
find out pricing information for your area.
Note: Mobile to Mobile minutes do not roll over,
and are not available with all rate plans. A call
will only be rated as mobile to mobile if the caller
and the receiving party are both on the AT&T network,
using AT&T phones, and in the AT&T mobile
to mobile calling area. If the phone displays "AT&T
Extend" while in the mobile to mobile calling
area, the call will not be rated as mobile to mobile.
