FAQ
About Batteries
How long should my batteries last (life)?
Battery "life" is approximately one year,
however charging habits may extend or reduce the life
of your battery.
What is memory effect?
If you keep charging a battery over and over when
it still has some stored power, the battery will eventually
build a 'memory' and will not be able to completely
drain and charge 100%. Over time, you can lose (depending
on the battery) over 50% of your battery's service
life and capacity, within the first year.
Will my car charger hurt my phone's battery?
Car chargers are a great way to keep you talking
during a busy day or on an extended trip; however,
using the car charger for more than two hours at a
time can "burn-up" your battery. We recommend
that you only use your cigarette charger for charging
a low battery and never for more than two hours at
a time.
Are lithium ion batteries memory-free?
Yes, lithium ion batteries are the only true 'no
memory' batteries.
Are Ni-MH batteries memory-free?
No, they are 'reduced memory' batteries. Ni-MH batteries
have a memory effect build up just like Ni Cd batteries
but it takes longer to build up.
How often should I condition my batteries?
Ni Cd batteries will build up a memory fairly quickly,
so discharging or conditioning the battery after every
two charges is recommended. Ni MH battery will build
up a memory slower than Ni Cd, so discharging or conditioning
the battery after every six charges is recommended.
Care and Maintenance of Your New Cellular/PCS Battery
Ni MH and Ni Cd batteries require some simple maintenance
in order to keep them operating at peak capacity.
These steps will ensure a long life for your new battery.
Charging:
In general, only charge batteries long enough to
fully charge them. Leaving batteries on a charger
for extended periods can damage the battery.
Ni MH batteries may require the use of a special
Ni MH battery charger.
Fast charging a Ni MH or Ni Cd:
In order to rapid charge a Ni MH battery, you will
require a charger rated to charge Ni MH batteries.
Do not use a Ni Cd fast charger with a Ni MH battery.
The Ni MH battery will become very hot, and damage
may occur within the battery.
Regular Ni Cd fast chargers work well with Ni Cd
batteries only. If possible, slow charge the Ni Cd
battery as often as possible. This will aid in prolonging
the batteries overall service life.
Slow charging a Ni MH or Ni Cd battery:
Ni MH batteries may be slow - charged, with any type
of Ni MH or Ni-Cd overnight charger without damaging
the battery. If you have any doubts about whether
or not your charger is capable of charging Ni MH batteries,
contact the manufacturer of your charger, or the store
from which it was purchased..
Lithium-Ion (Li-ion) Batteries:
Li-ion batteries should be charged with the charger
that is supplied with the phone.
Li-ion batteries are the only true "no memory
batteries". These batteries will never need to
be discharged. In fact, there are no dischargers or
conditioners made for Lithium batteries.
First time using your new battery:
It is best to slow charge your new battery at least
8-12 hours before using it.
